Rapid 5 Minute Epoxy Adhesive
Sylmasta Rapid 5 Minute Epoxy Adhesive is a fast-working epoxy adhesive which bonds a wide range of materials including metal, ceramic, brick, concrete, wood and most hard plastics. The 5-minute initial cure offers long enough to accurately assemble parts, whilst a 30-minute handling time reduces holding and clamping.
Rapid 5 Minute sets almost transparent with bond lines under 2mm thick. It is used to repair metal castings, ceramic ornaments, furniture, stone slabs and coping. It also fixes fittings to brick, wood or plaster. It can be used for test rig manufacture and model making.
It is supplied in either a 25ml syringe or 50ml cartridge. The resin and hardener are pre-measured and extruded via a dispenser, meaning the correct 50-50 ratio is delivered for mixing.
The syringe dispenses via a plunger, whilst the cartridge requires a specialist applicator gun designed for two-part adhesives, including AllWeld and UHU. Applicator guns are available to purchase separately. For more information, please contact Sylmasta.
After mixing, Rapid 5 Minute begins to set in 3–5 minutes at 20°C. It has a handling time of 30 minutes, during which the parts being bonded need to be held together. A full cure is achieved in 4–6 hours.
Sylmasta also manufacture a more specialised metal epoxy adhesive. Metal Bond Rapid 5 Minute sets to dark-grey to better blend into metalwork, and with a formulation designed to offer outstanding adhesion to metal and other rigid materials.
Rapid 5 Minute Epoxy Adhesive Details
Parts and surfaces to be bonded must be clean, dry and free from all traces of dust, grease, oil and other materials. To improve bond strength, both surfaces can be lightly abraded prior to the application of Rapid 5 Minute.
To use a Rapid 5 Minute syringe, snap off the nozzle tip and remove the cap from between the piston rods. Extrude the required amount of epoxy. With a Rapid 5 Minute cartridge, use the applicator gun to deliver equal amounts of epoxy.
Once extruded onto a throwaway surface such as a piece of cardboard, mix the two components together using a stirrer for about 30 seconds until an even mix is achieved.
The mixed epoxy is applied to one of the surfaces to be repaired, after which the two surfaces requiring bonding are pressed or clamped together.
Rapid 5 Minute will begin to set after 3 minutes. It should be left undisturbed to achieve a functional cure for 30 minutes. A full cure is reached after 24 hours.
Once Rapid 5 Minute Epoxy has been applied, the cap should be placed on part-used cartridges for re-use of the epoxy at a later date. Under the correct conditions, Rapid 5 Minute has a shelf life of two years from the date of manufacture.
