CrackSeal Sealant is a moisture-curing pipe sealant used to repair cracks and splits in cast iron waste, drain and soil pipes where water is not leaking through. It can also be used on other pipe materials where pressure is off, including steel and concrete lined pipework.
It comes in a 310ml cartridge, sets black and is extruded using a standard sealant applicator gun. CrackSeal is applied directly into the crack or longitudinal split which requires sealing until it is totally filled.
CrackSeal will harden almost instantly to seal the leak. It forms a skin in approximately 10 minutes, depending on ambient temperature. It adheres to wet surfaces and is silicone free, low odour and can be painted over.
To reinforce repairs made with CrackSeal, Sylmasta recommend overwrapping with a SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage. The Bandage offers a rock hard, impact resistant layer of protection.
SylWrap can be purchased alongside CrackSeal as part of the SylWrap Drain & Waste Pipe Repair Kit. The Kit contains different sealant materials for making multiple repairs to cast iron and plastic drain, waste and soil pipes.

CrackSeal Sealant details
Pipework and surfaces being sealed must be clean and free from oil and grease. Although CrackSeal adheres to wet surfaces, the pipe should be dried as much as possible.
To apply CrackSeal, the user pierces the metal seal on the tip of the cartridge and screws on the supplied nozzle. The nozzle is cut to the desired size at a 45° angle.
The cartridge is then inserted into the applicator gun and the metal seal at the base pushed out. Sufficient CrackSeal is extruded until the crack, hole or gap requiring repair is fully filled with sealant.
CrackSeal can be smoothed with a spatula or similar tool dipped in water containing a little detergent. It will set instantly, forming a skin after 10 minutes.
A 310ml CrackSeal cartridge will fill approximately one metre of cracked pipework based on a 1cm wide crack (One cartridge per yard if the crack is 1/2″).
Any excess should be cleaned up immediately with white spirit. Hardened CrackSeal can only be removed mechanically or with specialist sealant remover.
Unused CrackSeal will retain its properties inside the cartridge for 12 months if stored between 5 and 25°C.
