SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap
SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap is a composite fibreglass bandage with a water-activated resin incorporated with highly effective corrosion inhibitors. It has been formulated to protect pipes, metalwork and other structures in harsh and aggressive environments against substrate corrosion.
When wrapped around pipework, steel structures, metal piles and concrete pillars, SylWrap CR will set rock hard in minutes to form an impact resistant, chemically inert shell which prevents saltwater and environmental corrosion from occurring.
In testing, a metal pile wrapped in SylWrap CR was subjected to 1,000 hours of saltwater exposure. When SylWrap CR was removed from the pile at the completion of the test, the metalwork returned corrosion free.
The fast-working resin infused in SylWrap CR has a work time of between 2–5 minutes, allowing rapid repairs to be made. SylWrap CR can be applied directly to pipes and structures underwater, making it suitable for marine applications.
Where a pipe has been weakened or damaged, SylWrap CR increases hoop strength and outer wall thickness to return the line to original specification. It can be used on high pressure pipework and is temperature resistant to 250°C.
SylWrap CR is also used to protect pipes and metal parts against abrasive wear in gravel and sand plants, quarries, sugar mills, grain hoppers, coal chutes and mines.
SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap Details
SylWrap CR is easy-to-use. Dipping the bandage in water activates the resin. The bandage is then wrapped around the pipe or structure requiring protection against corrosion.
As SylWrap CR is applied, it should be smoothed down and around the pipe it is protecting. For optimal surface wetting and to achieve the desired five layers for high-strength repairs, the first layer of SylWrap CR should be wrapped so that the overlap with each wrap is approximately 5mm.
The subsequent two wraps can be applied with a 50% overlap to provide a total of five layers. As an alternative, and if necessary, apply all three layers of SylWrap CR with a 50% overlap to achieve six layers in total.
SylWrap CR has a work time of 2-5 minutes, allowing corrosion prevention measures to be made quickly. A functional cure is achieved in 30 minutes and a full cure with maximum properties in 24 hours.
